NO. 33 LAND BASED AIR DEFENCE WING MARKS 15TH ANNIVERSARY AT SLAF BASE ANURADHAPURA

No. 33 Land Based Air Defence Wing of the Sri Lanka Air Force, based at SLAF Base Anuradhapura, celebrated its 15th Anniversary yesterday (17 January 2026).

The Wing is presently commanded by Squadron Leader Chathura Pattiwila and consists of four Land Based Air Defence Squadrons and three Land Based Air Defence Flights deployed at SLAF Base Anuradhapura, SLAF Base Hingurakgoda, SLAF Academy China Bay, SLAF Base Vavuniya, SLAF Station Palavi, SLAF Recruit Training Centre Ampara and SLAF Station Palali.

To mark the anniversary, a Memorial Parade was conducted, followed by an address delivered by the Commanding Officer, during which the operational role, current status and continuing commitment of the Wing to the Sri Lanka Air Force were outlined.

In parallel with the anniversary celebrations, No. 33 Land Based Air Defence Wing organized a community service initiative involving a cleaning and refurbishment programme at Riyansi Alagiyawanna Special College, Anuradhapura, where more than 60 students with special needs are currently receiving education. 

Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
