The change of command of No 7 Helicopter Squadron at SLAF Base Hingurakgoda took place yesterday (29 January 2026) followed by the traditional Handing over and Taking over parade which was held at the squadron premises. The outgoing Commanding Officer, Group Captain HK Liyanaracchi USP, Pg Dip (Def Mgt) handed over the command to Wing Commander MGH De Silva RWP and Bar, RSP and two Bars, Pg Dip (Def Mgt), psc.

The outgoing Commanding Officer, Group Captain  Liyanarachchi took over the command at No 7 Helicopter Squadron on 28 December 2023 and concluded 26 years of distinguished service upon his retirement. The new Commanding Officer, Wing Commander De Silva, previously held the appointment as Flight Commander of No. 61 Flight at SLAF Base Ratmalana before being appointed as the Commanding Officer of No. 7 Helicopter Squadron.
