SECRETARY DEFENCE AND SLAF COMMANDER REVIEW COLOMBO BUS TERMINAL UPGRADE

The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), along with the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, conducted an inspection visit to the ongoing renovation project at the Colombo Central Bus Terminal, Pettah today (02 February 2026).

The project is being carried out under the national Clean Sri Lanka programme, which aims to enhance urban infrastructure while promoting environmental cleanliness and public convenience.

During the visit, which was attended by the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Transport Board, Mr. Sajeewa Kanakarathna, as well as representatives of relevant stakeholder institutions, the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence reviewed the progress of the renovation work and participated in a detailed progress review briefing delivered by the Director General Construction Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Vajira Senadeera. The briefing outlined the current status of construction activities, remaining work phases, timelines and key operational considerations.

Under the project scope, the Sri Lanka Air Force is undertaking the complete renovation of existing buildings at the Colombo Central Bus Stand, including floor resurfacing, infrastructure enhancements and drainage system development. The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence emphasized the importance of effective coordination with stakeholders to ensure the timely completion of the project and its handover to the public in the near future.
