Malaysian National Cricket Team Meets the SLAF at Rifle Green

The visiting Malaysian National Cricket Team played a friendly match against the SLAF XI today (10th August 2011) at Rifle Green grounds in Colombo. Playing on home grounds the Sri Lanka Air Force cricketers were fortunate to defeat the vising Malaysian National team by 44 runs.
The Malaysian Cricket Board with the support of the Asian Cricket Board sponsored the Malaysian National Team’s tour of Sri Lanka. The team arrived in Sri Lanka on 31st July 2011 with the intention of gaining experience before they host the ‘World Cricket League 2011- Division six’ from 17th – 24th September 2011.
A former Sri Lankan, Thushara Kodikara who left for Malaysia as a professional cricketer in 1996, is now the National Coach, who incidentally also played for four years for the Malaysian National team. Furthermore Hiran Uditha Weeranga and Thushara Prabath are also Sri Lankans who are going to represent Malaysia.
Warrant Officer I Pubalan, LAC Mohmad Shukri, AC Mohamed Norvira Zazmie, AC Abdul Rashid and AC Mohmad Suharril Fetri of the Royal Malaysian Air Force who were part of the Malaysian Cricket team said that they were indeed pleased to be able to play this friendly match against fellow airmen.
SLAF players batting first built up a target of 270 runs during their 50 overs. 91 runs came from Achira Eranga’s bat whilst Airman Mohamed Shukri took three wickets for 60 runs for the visitors.
SLAF Pishan Hewage demolished the Malaysian batting line up by taking 5 wickets. Though the Malaysians lost they played exceptionally well reaching a score of 226 runs before being bowled out in the 45th over. Once again displaying their talent airman Mohamed Norvira Zazmie scored a half ton for Malaysia.
The Malaysian were beaten twice by the Kandy development team but managed to defeat the Tamil Union team twice and Kurunegala Development team once during the time spent in Sri Lanka. They will be facing the Ragama Cricket Club, the Army Cricket Club and the Bloomfield team on 11th, 13th and 15th August 2011 respectively.
