SRI LANKA AIR FORCE RUGBY TEAM CLINCHED PLATE CHAMPIONSHIP – 2025/2026 SEASON
The SLAF Rugby Team secured the Plate Championship of the Maliban Inter-Club Rugby League 2025/2026 season today (20 February 2026) following a consistent and disciplined performance throughout the Plate segment of the tournament.
After competing in the main league phase against strong opposition, the Airmen regrouped effectively in the Plate competition. Structured attacking play, coordinated forward dominance and organised defence enabled the team to record several important victories, including a 25–12 win over Police Sports Club in a decisive encounter.
During the main league stage, Air Force also registered notable performances, including a 26–17 victory over Police SC.
Several players made valuable contributions during the season. Shamika Kaushan and Gayantha Iddamalgoda were among those who delivered consistent performances through effective running, accurate kicking and support play. Their efforts were strengthened by the collective commitment of the forward pack and the leadership within the squad.
The 2025/2026 season highlighted the continued progress of Air Force Rugby, with improved combinations and effective game management contributing to the overall success in the Plate segment.
The awards presentation ceremony was attended by Marshal of the Sri Lanka Air Force Roshan Goonetilleke, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya, Chairman Air Force Rugby, Air Commodore Subash Jayathillake and several other distinguished invitees who witnessed the final proceedings and the presentation of awards.
