SLAF NO. 49 CBRNE WING CONTRIBUTES EXPERTISE TO NATIONAL CBRNE PREPAREDNESS PROGRAMME

The No. 49 Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosives (CBRNE) Wing of the Sri Lanka Air Force participated in the National CBRNE Preparedness Programme conducted from 23 to 27 February 2026 at the Galle Face Hotel. The programme was organized by the Ministry of Health and Mass Media in collaboration with the World Health Organization and comprised the drafting of a Standardized National Reference Manual on chemical incident response, a consultative meeting on inter-agency coordination, and a training workshop featuring a simulation exercise on CBRNE emergency preparedness and response.

The SLAF delegation was led by the Commanding Officer of No. 49 CBRNE Wing, Wing Commander Daham Wikramarathne together with the qualified officers of the same wing.

During the programme, Wing Commander Wikramarathne conducted lectures and delivered expert presentations on operational preparedness, personal protective equipment (PPE) and protective patient kit (PPK) utilization, donning and doffing procedures, decontamination operations, and inter-agency coordination mechanisms in CBRNE contingencies. The delegation contributed significant technical expertise and operational insights to the drafting process and the simulation exercise, thereby strengthening national-level planning and enhancing civil–military cooperation in CBRNE emergency response.

Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
