SLAF CYCLING TEAM CLINCHES WOMEN’S TEAM TITLE AT GUWAN HAMUDA PAPEDI SAWARIYA 2026

The ‘Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya 2026’, organized to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force, was held for the 27th consecutive time. The Men’s race took place from 27 February to 01 March 2026 in three stages. Cyclists from across the country, as well as international participants, competed in the event, covering a total distance of 411.5 km. Helal Jaber Abdulla Mohammad Alharbi of UAE MOD emerged as the Overall Champion. The Team Championship was secured by the United Arab Emirates Team, while the Sri Lanka Army Team claimed the Runner-Up position after a closely contested race.

The Women’s race was held today (01 March 2026) from Meerigama to Defence Headquarters, Akuregoda, covering a distance of 81.9 km. The Friends Cycle Club dominated the podium, with Anne Shenali Perera securing first place and winning the Overall Championship in the Women’s category. The Team Championship in the Women’s race was won by the Sri Lanka Air Force Cycling Team.

The awards ceremony was held at Air Force Headquarters, with the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, Members of the Air Force Board of Management, the Chairman of SLAF Cycling, Air Vice Marshal Indika Wickramasinghe, senior officers, representatives of sponsors who supported the event, and the official media partners were also present at the presentation ceremony.
