SLAF SPORTS FIESTA 2026 CONCLUDES WITH THRILLING FINALS AT SLAF BASE KATUNAYAKE
The SLAF Sports Fiesta 2026 was successfully concluded with the finals of Volleyball, Cricket and Netball and the awards ceremony held yesterday (13 March 2026) at SLAF Base Katunayake. The sporting event was organized in line with the 75th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force, bringing together personnel from various establishments of the SLAF to celebrate camaraderie, teamwork and the spirit of sportsmanship.
The finals commenced with the Volleyball championship match on 12 March 2026 between SLAF Base Katunayake and SLAF Station Iranamadu. In a competitive encounter, SLAF Base Katunayake secured the championship title with a 5–3 victory, while SLAF Station Iranamadu emerged as runners-up after a commendable performance. The excitement continued on 13 March 2026 with the Cricket Final between SLAF Base Ratmalana and SLAF Academy China Bay. Batting first, SLAF Academy China Bay scored 112 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. SLAF Base Ratmalana responded with a determined chase but managed to score 108 runs for 7 wickets, enabling SLAF Academy China Bay to clinch the championship by a narrow margin of four runs. On the same day, the Netball Final was contested between SLAF Base Katunayake and SLAF Trade Training School (TTS) Ekala, where SLAF Base Katunayake displayed excellent coordination and skill to secure the championship title while SLAF TTS Ekala finished as runners-up.
The awards ceremony marking the culmination of the Sports Fiesta was graced by the Chief of Staff of the SLAF, Air Vice Marshal Lasitha Sumanaweera. The event was also attended by Members of the Air Force Board of Management, the Base Commander of SLAF Base Katunayake, Amitha Jayamaha, Director Sports, Air Commodore Prabhath Dissanayake, the Commandant, Base Commanders, Commanding Officers, Officers, Airmen and Airwomen. During the ceremony, trophies and awards were presented to the champion teams and runners-up in recognition of their outstanding performances.
