SRI LANKA AVIATION UNIT CELEBRATES SINHALA AND TAMIL NEW YEAR IN CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC
The Sri Lanka Aviation Unit deployed under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) proudly celebrated the Sinhala and Tamil New Year 2026 with great enthusiasm, preserving the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka despite being thousands of miles away from home.
The vibrant celebrations were held within the Contingent premises, bringing together all members of the Sri Lankan Contingent in a spirit of unity, camaraderie and festivity. The occasion was graced by the Acting Contingent Commander Wing Commander Wikum Mapatuna, who attended as the Chief Guest.
The celebration featured a series of lively and engaging traditional New Year games.
Adding further colour to the occasion, musical entertainment and cultural experiences were organized, allowing contingent members to celebrate joyfully amidst their demanding operational commitments.
