SLAF TAKES OVER FIRE AND RESCUE SERVICES ON KEY EXPRESSWAYS
The SLAF has officially assumed responsibility for providing fire and rescue services at five key stations along the Expressway network with effect from 17 April 2026, further strengthening emergency response capabilities and enhancing the safety of the general public using these vital transport routes.
The stations now operated by the SLAF are located at Seeduwa, Galanigama, Kurundugahahetakma, Pinnaduwa and Sooriyawewa. This important initiative significantly improves the capacity for rapid response to fire incidents, road traffic accidents and other emergencies along some of the country’s busiest expressways.
With this undertaking, the Sri Lanka Air Force continues to support national safety, maintain high operational standards, and serve the public, while expanding its role beyond air operations into vital ground-based emergency response services.
