INDUCTION OF THE PRESIDENT – SRI LANKA COLLEGE OF MILITARY MEDICINE (SLCOMM) 2026/2027

The Induction Ceremony of the President of the Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine (SLCOMM) for the term 2026/2027 was held with great splendour yesterday (25 April 2026) at Eagles Lagoon View Banquet & Convention Hall, Katunayake.

The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while the Guest of Honour was Professor Vajira Dissanayake, Dean, Chair and Senior Professor of Anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo.

The ceremony commenced with the ceremonial procession, followed by the welcome address delivered by the incumbent President, Surgeon Rear Admiral Janaka Marambe. In his address, he highlighted the key activities of the College over the past year and outlined its future directions.

Addressing the gathering, Professor Dissanayake emphasized the importance of strengthening Tri-Forces military medical services to ensure resilience in the face of emerging challenges. He also extended his congratulations to the newly inducted President and the Council.

In his remarks, Air Marshal Edirisinghe commended the invaluable contributions of Tri-Forces medical services during the recent cyclone Ditwah, and conveyed his best wishes for continued excellence in both academic and operational domains.

The highlight of the evening was the induction of Air Commodore Harsha Kariyapperuma as the 10th President of the Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine. The Presidential Medal was ceremonially conferred by the outgoing President, Surgeon Rear Admiral Marambe.

In his inaugural address, Air Commodore Kariyapperuma reflected on the evolution and achievements of Tri-Forces medical services, highlighting their contributions at both national and international levels, particularly during natural disasters. He also outlined his vision for the future, focusing on enhancing academic excellence, operational readiness, collaboration, and innovation to further advance military medicine and ensure resilient healthcare support for the armed forces.

The Vote of Thanks was delivered by the Secretary of SLCOMM, Wing Commander Dinuka Perera, on behalf of the President and the Council. The ceremony concluded with a captivating cultural performance by the Sri Lanka Air Force cultural troupe.

The event was attended by the Director General Health Services of the SLAF, Air Vice Marshal Lalith Jayaweera, members of the Air Force Board of Management, distinguished Tri-Forces personnel and eminent representatives from both military and civilian sectors.

Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
