AERONAUTICAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT WING CELEBRATES 5TH ANNIVERSARY
The Aeronautical Research and Development Wing (AR&DW) at SLAF Station Katukurunda proudly celebrated its 5th anniversary today (30 April 2026). As the pioneering body of aeronautical research in the SLAF, the AR&DW continues to contribute to the SLAF through a series of aeronautical and avionics-related research and development initiatives.
Functioning as a centre that promotes collaboration and knowledge sharing among professionals from diverse disciplines, the Wing continues to deliver innovative solutions to address some of the most critical challenges faced by the organization. Recently, indigenously developed Vimana S III surveillance drones were handed over SLAF Disaster Management Training School Digana and SLAF Regimental Training Centre, Ampara for operational and training related deployments.
To mark the occasion, a customary Working Parade was held today with the participation of Officers, Other Ranks and Civilian Personnel of the Wing and was reviewed by the present Commanding Officer, Group Captain Ijeshe Chandratilleke.

As part of its commitment to social responsibility, the Wing undertook a community service project involving a “Shramadana” at the Marcsri Home for differently abled children in Kalutara which was conducted on 22 April 2026. Additionally, a religious ceremony was held at the AR&DW Hangar premises to invoke blessings on the Wing and all its personnel on 28 April 2026.
