Five officers of the SLAF successfully completed the Training of Trainers (ToT) Course on “Patrols/Convoy Operations in a Hostile Environment with a Focus on Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) Awareness,” conducted by the United Nations (UN) Mobile Training Team (MTT) from the Federal Republic of Germany in collaboration with the Institute of Peace Support Operations Training Sri Lanka (IPSOTSL) and the Army Training School Maduruoya from 20 April 2026 to 15 May 2026.

The SLAF officers who completed the course were Squadron Leader Chamila Rathnayaka, Flight Lieutenant Darshana Hulangamuwa, Flight Lieutenant Dilukshi Jayasekara, Flight Lieutenant Harshana Nipunajith and Flight Lieutenant Sanduni Ravihansi.

The four-week programme, conducted by the German Bundeswehr-led UN Mobile Training Team, included classroom instruction and practical field training focused on United Nations Peace Support Operations and IED awareness. A total of 54 participants representing the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Air Force and Sri Lanka Police attended the programme.

The training covered field exercise procedures, convoy operations, tactical movement techniques, crowd-management procedures, identification of hazardous items and mission-oriented response procedures. The programme also included live firing exercises, EOD explosion demonstrations and physical fitness assessments.

During the practical training phase conducted at ATS Maduruoya, Bell 212 helicopters of the Sri Lanka Air Force supported casualty evacuation (CASEVAC) training sorties, providing operational support for emergency response and battlefield casualty management exercises conducted under simulated operational conditions.

Throughout the programme, participants completed a range of tactical scenarios, instructional tasks and team-based operational activities conducted in accordance with international training standards. The course provided exposure to multinational operational procedures and peacekeeping practices relevant to future United Nations missions.

The Certificate and Badge Awarding Ceremony was held on 15 May 2026 at IPSOTSL with the participation of senior Tri-Forces and Police representatives together with foreign delegates. The Deputy Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Sri Lanka attended the occasion as the Chief Guest.
