SLAF STATION MIRIGAMA CELEBRATES 19TH ANNIVERSARY
The station traces its origins to 06 April 2007, when it was established as SLAF Detachment Mirigama at Kithulwala, Ihalgamakanda Mountain, under the command of the Base Commander, SLAF Base Katunayake. It was formed to provide security, administrative and logistical support for the establishment of No. 04 Air Defence Radar Squadron. Subsequently, the Detachment was upgraded to SLAF Station Mirigama, and Wing Commander HBDJ Karunarathne was appointed as its first Commanding Officer on 01 June 2007.
SLAF Station Mirigama marked its 19th Anniversary yesterday (01 June 2026) with a series of commemorative and recreational events held at the station. The anniversary celebrations commenced with a customary working parade, which was reviewed by the Commanding Officer, Group Captain DGNB Senavirathne. As part of the day’s programme, a religious Bana session and a tree planting initiative were conducted to invoke blessings and promote environmental consciousness. The celebrations concluded in a spirit of camaraderie with friendly cricket and netball tournaments held at the station sports ground, involving both service personnel and civilian staff. The day’s activities ended with an all-ranks lunch.
