WELFARE PROJECT UNIT, SLAF BASE RATMALANA CELEBRATES 07TH ANNIVERSARY
The SLAF Welfare Project Unit (WPU), SLAF Base Ratmalana, celebrated its 07th Anniversary today (26 June 2026).
Since its establishment, the Unit has been responsible for the procurement and distribution of essential commodities to the Welfare Shops of all Sri Lanka Air Force establishments at concessionary rates. In addition to this responsibility, the Unit continues to support the welfare of service personnel, civil staff and their families in coordination with the Directorate of Welfare and in accordance with the directives of Air Force Headquarters.
In commemoration of the anniversary, an alms-giving ceremony was held at Anu Subodharamaya, Ratmalana, on 25 June 2026. The ceremony was attended by the Commanding Officer of the SLAF Welfare Project Unit, Wing Commander Sajith Thilakarathne, together with all ranks of the Unit, to invoke blessings for the continued progress and well-being of the SLAF.
As part of the anniversary programme, a customary Working Parade was held and was inspected by the Commanding Officer, Wing Commander Sajith Thilakarathne. A friendly cricket tournament was also conducted to mark the occasion.
The event was attended by the Director General Air Operations, Air Vice Marshal Dammika Dias, the Director General Welfare, Air Vice Marshal Rajinth Jayewardena, the Acting Base Commander of SLAF Base Ratmalana, Group Captain Nirosh Rajasinghe, Formation Commanding Officers, officers, other ranks and civil staff of the SLAF Welfare Project Unit. The 07th Anniversary celebrations concluded with an All-Ranks lunch.
