FIRE AWARENESS TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR COMMERCIAL BANK STAFF
The SLAF conducted a two-day Fire Awareness Training Programme for Security Officers of Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC at the Fire School and Fire Training Management School (FS&FTMS), SLAF Base Katunayake, on 18 and 19 July 2026.
A total of 24 Security Officers from Commercial Bank participated in the programme, which comprised both theoretical and practical training sessions. The lecture sessions covered fire prevention, fire detection and protection systems, the duties and responsibilities of fire wardens and fire duty personnel, emergency evacuation procedures, fire safety practices, first response during emergencies and basic firefighting methods and techniques.
The practical sessions provided participants with training on the correct use of first aid firefighting appliances, hose drill procedures, casualty handling techniques and breathing apparatus operations, including smoke room exercises. The training was designed to familiarize participants with the procedures required to respond to fire emergencies and undertake initial firefighting measures until the arrival of professional firefighting personnel.
The programme was conducted by qualified instructors of the Fire School and Fire Training Management School under the guidance of the Commanding Officer, Wing Commander RCN Ranneththi, utilizing the specialized training facilities available at the school. The programme concluded with a simulated emergency response exercise, providing participants with an opportunity to apply the knowledge and practical skills acquired during the training.
