SLAF CONDUCTS 17TH ANNUAL FLIGHT SAFETY POSTER COMPETITION AWARDS CEREMONY
The Inspectorate of Flight Safety, under the leadership of the Director Flight Safety, conducted the 17th Annual Flight Safety Poster Competition Awards Ceremony at Air Force Headquarters this morning (01 September 2026). The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, accompanied by the Chief of Staff, Air Vice Marshal Lasith Sumanaweera, and the Director Flight Safety, Air Vice Marshal Dinesh Jayaweera.
The Annual Flight Safety Poster Competition, organised for the 17th consecutive year, was conducted as part of the 75th Anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lanka Air Force, with the aim of enhancing flight safety awareness among all ranks of the SLAF. Participants were invited to create posters based on relevant flight and ground safety themes, including Alcohol and Self-Medication, Elementary Stresses, Corrosion, Disorientation, Stress and Fatigue, which are among the common safety concerns encountered in day-to-day flying operations.
The Inspectorate of Flight Safety received more than 250 entries for the competition. Following an evaluation by an expert panel of judges, 13 finalists were selected. The final adjudication was conducted by the Chief of Staff, who selected the top three winners. The first, second and third-place winners were awarded cash prizes, while consolation cash prizes were awarded to the remaining 10 finalists.

The annual competition continues to serve as an effective platform for promoting a strong safety culture across the Sri Lanka Air Force, encouraging personnel to actively recognise and communicate important flight and ground safety considerations through creative and meaningful visual representations.
