SLAF AGRO UNIT SUPPORTS SAFE RELOCATION OF ELEPHANT TO HOROWPOTHANA ELEPHANT RESERVE

A team of Veterinary Officers from the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Agro Unit, comprising he Commanding Officer of Agro Unit Group Captain Sampath Jayathilake and Wing Commander Henry Jinarathne, provided veterinary assistance to the Department of Wildlife Conservation in the safe tranquilization and relocation of an elephant from the Thalawa area.

The intervention was carried out following reports of the elephant being involved in incidents of human attacks. The veterinary team successfully tranquilized the elephant, enabling its safe capture and transportation to the Horowpothana Elephant Reserve.

The elephant was successfully relocated to the reserve on 09 September 2026, with the operation conducted in coordination with the Department of Wildlife Conservation. The assistance provided by the SLAF Agro Unit reflects the Sri Lanka Air Force's continued support for wildlife conservation efforts and its commitment to assisting national authorities in safeguarding both human life and wildlife.
