SLAF’S HERSHIELD PROGRAMME PROMOTES CHILD PROTECTION AND DRUG PREVENTION

The Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU) of the Sri Lanka Air Force conducted the third session of its HerShield Programme on 13 October 2026 at Horizon Hall, Air Force Headquarters, focusing on child protection, prevention of child abuse, prevention of drug and substance abuse among children and youth, and online safety.

Conducted under the guidance of SVU Chairperson Mrs Krishanthi Edirisinghe, the programme featured DIG Kalinga Jayasinghe and Mr Hans Billimoria, who shared valuable insights on child protection, drug abuse prevention, and emerging online threats, including risks associated with social media and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The panel discussion was moderated by Attorney-at-Law Mr WIshwa Widanagamage.

The programme aimed to strengthen awareness among SLAF personnel of their responsibilities in protecting children, recognising early warning signs of substance abuse, and promoting safe and supportive family environments.

Through HerShield and other sustainable initiatives, the Seva Vanitha Unit continues to empower SLAF personnel, strengthen family well-being and promote social responsibility towards building a safer future for the next generation.

Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
