Group Captain Athula Kaluarachchi, the Commanding Officer Sri Lanka Air Force Station Palaly declared opened a fully-fledged Gymnasium on 12 October 2011 which had been a long outstanding facility for service personnel at the station.

The facility was established with multi exercise machines through Air Force funding whilst the Sports Section staff along with all Airmen of the Station contributing in various ways. Further, well-wishers who also identified the importance of enhancing the recreation facilities of nearly 1000 airmen also contributed to this endeavor to their fullest.
