6th Stage of 'Api Wenuwen Api' Housing Project Completed

HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa handed over 14 houses built in Ampara, Batticaloa and Trincomalee, under the 6th stage of the “Api Wenuwen Api housing project for war heroes” yesterday (19th October 2011) at the Divulana Maha Vidyalaya, Piyangala, Ampara. The housing project is being conducted under the guidance and close supervision of the Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Chairperson of the Defence Ministry's Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa.
HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa ceremonially opened the new house of Sergeant Jayaratna KMR of Piyangala, Rajagahathenna, in a simple but colourful ceremony.
On stage, the Eastern province Governor Rear Admiral (rtd) Mohan Wijewickrama welcomed the distinguished gathering to the Eastern Province. The Hon P. Dayaratna, as the senior MP of the eastern province, also addressed the gathering. This was followed by the main address of the day which was delivered by the Secretary to the President Mr. Lalith Weeratunga. The vote of thanks was delivered by MP Rear Admiral (rtd) Sarath Weerasekera.
Following this, HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa presented another thirteen Ranaviru families with the keys to their newly built houses and with household equipment and gifts. Subsequent to this, school children of the Divulana Maha Vidyalaya were given school bags, shoes and required stationery by the President himself.
The secretary of Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Chairperson of the Defence Ministry's Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa, the Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, the Navy Commander Vice Admiral D.W.A.S.Dissanayake and the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama and their ladies were also present on the occasion. Senior officers of the Armed forces and Police were also present on the occasion as were a large gathering of parents and residents of the area.
The Directorate of Welfare, assisted by other Directorates of the Sri Lanka Air Force and Officers, other ranks and civillians of SLAF Ampara worked effortlessly to make this ceremonial event a success.
