Completion of No 29 KDU Officer Cadet's Intensive Training Course
7:38pm on Friday 23rd December 2011
36 Officer Cadets of the 29th Officer Cadets’ Course of the Kothlawala Defence University successfully completed the Intensive Training Course and passed out from the prestigious SLAF Station Diyatalawa on 20 December 2011. The Commanding Officer Group Captain Janaka Amerasinghe RSP, BSc (Def Stu) in Mgt, MDS, psc was the Chief Guest of the event. Officer Cadets have completed a 3 month training programme which covered Land Navigation, Field-craft, Tactics, Weapon Training, General Service Knowledge and Field Training Exercises as military subjects. They were given training on Information Technology and English Language in order to face the future challenges of the world. Apart from academics they had 'the opportunity of taking part in a "Debate" against the Officer Cadets of the Sri Lanka Military Academy on their "English Language Day" and brought fame to their organization.
The main significance of this course is that unlike the yester years "A KDU Cadet Batch" was given an Initial Training in the Air Force prior to proceeding to the KDU for the Defence Degree Programme for the first time. Thus this paved the way for them to learn about "Air Force Culture" in a more meaningful way at the initial stages of their career.
The most spectacular event of the day was the "Drill Display" performed by the Officer Cadets, who were trained by the Drill Instructors of the Cadet Training Squadron, at the parade square. Their dedication and commitment to the entrusted task was very well demonstrated after a training of just 3 months.
The parents of the Officer Cadets were invited for the occasion and a "Parents Day" was
held at the Officer Cadets' Mess on the same day. A "Talent Show" was staged by the cadets in order to entertain the invitees. Those who witnessed the events praised all instructors for their worthy contribution they had made to transform the cadets from civilians to service men and women.
The Commanding Officer together with Officer Commanding Training, Wing Commander Chaminda Wickramaratne RWP, psc gave leadership to the cadet training crew of the Station. Sqn Ldr KMKB Jayasekara as the CICT, Sqn Ldr KPG Piyarathne as the English Language Instructor, Flt Lt WASR Weerasinghe as the Off I/C Cadet Training and the Instructors of the ITU carried out the training programmes.
Officer Cadet Marikkar SFMF became the best officer cadet of the course whilst Lady Officer Cadet Attale DLC and Officer Cadet Bandara HMHHS secured the second and third places respectively in the order of merit.
