A forest fire erupted near the Hambantota New District Hospital, within the Hambantota Divisional Secretariat, today (22 August 2025).

The firefighting operation was carried out under the coordination of the Hambantota District Disaster Management Coordination Unit, with the joint support of SLAF Station Weerawila, the Hambantota Port, the Tangalle Municipal Council, the Hambantota Municipal Council, and the Hambantota Navy Base. Fire vehicles, water bowsers, and firefighting teams from these institutions worked together, enabling the fire to be completely extinguished after nearly three hours of continuous effort.

In addition, officers from the Hambantota Police Station were present at the scene and assisted in ensuring the firefighting operations were conducted efficiently.
