Press Conference For Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya 2012

The Chairman of SLAF Cycling Federation, Air Vice Marshal GP Bulathsinghala made public the intention of the SLAF to hold the Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya 2012 at the press briefing held at the Air Force Headquarters auditorium (09th March 2012).
Measures are in place to stage the Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya 2012 organized by the Sri Lanka Air Force and Sri Lanka Cycling Federation.
“Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya” will be conducted for the 13th consecutive year, coinciding with 61st Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force. This cycle race is exclusively sponsored by Abans Ltd.
The objective of the race is to offer an opportunity to the cycling fraternity to take part in a competitive event and to promote the sport in Sri Lanka. This race is ranked at National level and conducted under the auspices of the Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka. Over one hundred Sri Lankan male and thirty women ranking/other riders registered with the CFSL are expected to compete in this renowned race.
The race will commence on 15 March 2012 from Colombo to finish at Palaviya (147Km). On the following day the race will start from Puttalam and finish at Dambulla (148Km). On the third day the race will start from Dambulla to finish at Colombo in front of the SLAF Headquarters Colombo (160Km). In addition to the Men’s race a Women’s race will commence on 17 March 2012 from Meerigama to finish at Colombo in front of the Air Force Headquarters (54 Km) .
This is the first time a Womens’ race is being organized at national level by the SLAF. Both races will be broadcast by “Hiru FM” and telecast live on Rupavahini on the respective days.In keeping with the tradition of “Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya”, for the year 2012 Race we have decided to give away handsome cash awards for a total of Rs. 1(One) Million.
The awards ceremony will be held at the Rifle Green grounds at SLAF Colombo at 1800 Hrs on 17 March 2012 where the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama along with sponsors and other distinguished guests will grace occasion.
