Commomoration Ceremony for War Heroes of Uva and Wellassa

A ceremony with a view to
commemorate the heroes who sacrificed their precious lives to eliminate
our motherland from brutality of LTTE was held on the 10th May 2012 in
front of the ‘War Heroes’ Memorial‘ in Badulla. The ceremony was
organized by the Governors’ Office of Uva Province. A parade consisted
of troops from the tri forces and police paid their respect and the
floral tribute was made by the dignitaries attended the occasion.
The Governor of Uva province Hon Nanda Methew attended as the Chief Guest, members of the Uva Provincial Council, government officials, military and police officers also were present at the occasion.
The Commanding Officer Group Captain Janaka Amerasinghe represented the Sri Lanka Air Force at this prestigious event together with CO 30th regiment Squadron Leader Lalith Sugathadasa and airmen.
The Chief Minister of the Uva Province Hon Shashindra Rajapaksha in his speech stressed that he was proud to be there as the Guest Of Honour at that occasion since the heroes who gave their valued lives for tomorrow are the descendants of the historical 1818 war which was fought against then British rule. Furthermore he felicitated the heroes who became disabled during the battle and their members of the families whose contribution was very high at that important juncture.
