‘Viru Daru Diri Thilina’ (Grants for Children with Special Needs), another innovative programme conducted by the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit was held at the Air Force Headquarter’s Auditorium on 28th May 2012 under the patronage of the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama and Chairperson of the SLAF SVU Mrs. Neelika Abeywickrema. A total number of 66 differently able / abnormal children of service personnel as well as the civilian employees of the SLAF received monetary grants. 

The ceremony commenced with traditional lighting of oil lamp followed by the Seva Vanitha theme song.  Flight Lieutenant Nalin Peiris, Assistant Treasurer Seva Vanitha Unit, delivered the welcome address and explained the concept of the programme. Members of Air Force Board of Management including the Chief of Staff, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated at this function. The event concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Squadron Leader Prasanthika De Mel, Assistant Secretary Seva Vanitha Unit.
