SLAF in a Fire Fighting Mission

From late this morning two SLAF Bell 212 helicopters flew total of 4.45hrs and carried out 5 Fire Fighting  'Bambi Bucket' water drops while an Mi 17 flew 3.35hrs and carried out 6 firefighting 'Bambi Bucket' water drops in Hasalaka Morayaya area and Asamodagamyaya area in the general area of Mahiyangana approx 16 and 9 km south of the 18 hairpin bends. The SLAF was able to extinguish one area totally and was fighting the fire in the Asamodagamyaya area until late evening today. All fire fighting operations were conducted on the request of and in close cooperation with the Disaster management Centre.
