Viru Daru Diri Thilina (Grants for Children with Special Needs), another innovative programme conducted by the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit for the second time was held at the Air Force Headquarters’ Auditorium on 20th March 2013 under the patronage of the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal HD Abeywickrama and Chairperson of the SLAF SVU Mrs. Neelika Abeywickrema. A total number of 83 differently able/ abnormal children of service personnel and the civilian employees of the SLAF received monetary grants. The SLAF Motor Racing Association has contributed towards this worthy cause by raising funds through the Motor Races conducted at SLAF Units Katukurunda and Sigiriya during last year.

Flight Lieutenant KMNS Peiris, Assistant Treasurer Seva Vanitha Unit, delivered the welcome address and explained the concept of the programme. The Chief of Staff Air Vice Marshal KA Gunatilleke, Members of the Air Force Board of Management, members of the SLAF SVU, senior officers, officers and other ranks participated at this function. The event concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Squadron Leader PG De Mel, Assistant Secretary Seva Vanitha Unit.
