SLAF Annual Road Race-2013

Sri Lanka Air Force Station Diyatalawa emerged overall Men’s Champions with 25 points and was awarded the Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama Challenging Trophy in the Annual Road Race 2013 whilst SLAF Base Anuradhapura (Point 15) and SLAF Station Palaly (Point 10) secured the second and third places respectively this morning (3rd August 2013)
Over 450 participants inclusive of Officers, Airmen and Airwomen from various age groups representing all Air Force Bases/Stations/ Units took part at this event that concluded at the Rifle Green Grounds, Sri Lanka Air Force Station Colombo.
The road race for the under 35 age groups was flagged off by the Director Operations Air Vice Marshal GP Bulathsinghala opposite the Independence Square. The competitors ran 7 kms from Independence Square, Cinnamon Garden Police Station, Campus Ground, In front of Museum, Liberty Roundabout, Piththala Junction, Gangarama Mawatha, Nawaloka Junction, Slave Island Color lights, Slave Island police Station and concluded the race at SLAF Colombo Rifle Green Grounds.
The road race over 35 age groups men with the women road race was flagged off by Director Welfare Air Vice Marshal MLK Perera at Gamini Hall Junction. The competitors had to cover 2km on the route from Gamini Hall Junction, Sampath Bank, Lake House Roundabout, AFHQ Roundabout and concluded the race at SLAF Colombo Rifle Green.
The Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Air Vice Marshal KA Gunatilleke was the Chief Guest and Director Operations Air Vice Marshal GP Bulathsinghala, Director Welfare Air Vice Marshal MLK Perera, Commanding Officer SLAF Station Colombo Air Commodore DJC Weerakoon, Chairman SLAF Athletics Air Commodore SK Pathirana, Secretary Air Force Sport Council Group Captain RS Biyanwila, Command Sport Officer Group Captain Ravihansa and other Officers as well as the other ranks were present at the event.
