Eagles’ Lakeside Banquet & Convention Hall Declared open by His Excellency the President

The Eagles' Lakeside Banquet & Convention Hall in Attidiya, was ceremonially declared open by His Excellency the President, Mahinda Rajapaksa this evening, 12th November 2013.
The Eagles' Lakeside Banquet & Convention Hall, which is the second such banquet hall to be constructed by the Sri Lanka Air Force, is proud to have been selected as the venue for the reception and gala dinner hosted by HE the President, Mahinda Rajapaksa, this evening (12th November 2013) for members of the Commonwealth Business Forum in his capacity as Chairman of the 23rd Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2013.
The Eagles' Lakeside Banquet & Convention Hall, which has a capacity to seat more than a thousand persons for banquets, offers all modern facilities required for the hosting of banquets, receptions, conferences and conventions. The complex encompasses a total area of 47,920 sq feet which includes a 17,760 sq foot, air conditioned banquet hall equipped with a large dance floor, a 1841sq foot Stage with modern facilities and an exclusive waterfront deck which offers a breath-taking view of the lake front. In addition, the facilities include two bridal dressing rooms and three large changing room, lobby, Kitchen with star class facilities, a food serving area, reception, HR Department, spacious washrooms. The complex also boasts of a large landscaped garden and well trained staff.
This facility offers special concessions to all tri-service personnel who would be able to hold weddings and other functions at a fraction of the cost which would be incurred to obtain similar facilities of other establishment. The Banquet Hall will also be available for booking by the general public.
Based on the success of the Eagle's Lagoon View Banquet Hall in Katunayake, the Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapakse, graciously made available a block of hitherto unused land at Attidiya to the SLAF for the purpose of constructing the Eagles' Lakeside Banquet & Convention hall. It was on this land at Attidiya that construction work of the Hall was begun by the Directorate of Civil Engineering of the Sri Lanka Air Force and completed within just 14 months. Continuing the Commander's vision of achieving self-sufficiency in matters of welfare, the construction of the banquet hall was financed in its entirety by the Command Welfare Fund with the intention of earning revenue to the fund and thereby in turn increasing the capital available for welfare of Air Force Personnel and their families.
Architectural design of the building was made by Wing Commander SDW Athaudage of the Directorate of Civil Engineering of the Sri Lanka Air Force in collaboration with Landscaping/ Waterscaping consultant Mr. Buddhika Kadurugamuwa. The Commanding Officer Civil Engineering Wing Group Captain HWMU Wijesinghe, Wing Commander KIS De Silva the Commanding Officer Air Field Construction Wing and Wing Commander KC Geethapriya the Commanding Officer Mechanical & Electrical Engineering Wing were the key figures who were entrusted the responsibility of the entire construction project. Over 300 Civil Engineering Trade personnel attached to these three Wings under the Special Project Engineer, Squadron Leader HII Fernando continued the construction almost around the clock to complete the project according to the scheduled timeframe.
The construction project of the 'Eagles' Lakeside Banquet & Convention Hall was administratively nurtured under the Base Commander SLAF Base Ratmalana and the operational function of the same comes under the purview of the Commanding Officer No. 2 Leisure and Recreational Wing of the Sri Lanka Air Force.
The General Secretary of the Commonwealth Mr. Kamalesh Sharma, Hon DM Jayaratna the Prime Minister of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Minister of External Affairs Prof GL Peris, Minister of Irrigation and Water Supply Hon Nimal Siripala De Silva, Minister of Investment Promotion Hon Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapakse, the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama and foreign dignitaries were also present at the function.
