SLAF Weightlifters Return Home to a Rousing Welcome

Sri Lanka Air Force Weightlifters who represented Sri Lanka as part of the National Team at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship - 2013 which was held in Penang, Malaysia on 24th to 30th November 2013 returned to the Island this morning (2nd November 2013) to a rousing welcome at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake.
Weightlifter, Aircraftman Palangasinghe DKTWK of the Sri Lanka Air Force competed in the under 20 age group and 56Kg weight class set the junior Sri Lanka record and bagged the Gold medal after lifting a total of 241 Kg (135 Kg in Clean & Jerk and 106 Kg in Snatch lift) and also managed to equal the open Sri Lankan record in the same weight class securing the Silver medal.
Shasika Ekanayake of Maliyadewa College Kurunegala and Isuru Senadeera of Royal College Polonnaruwa won the Gold medal and Bronze medal respectively in the under 50Kg and 94Kg weight classes. Meanwhile Corporal Wijesuriya CSSP and Able Seaman Dissanayake DMIC of the Sri Lanka Army and Navy bagged the Bronze medals in the 56Kg and 62 Kg open events respectively.
