It was very recently that the SLAF took up the task of establishing a Baseball team to compete at the Defence Services Competition Level.  The assistance of Mr Malindu Hewage, a renowned Baseball coach was enlisted for this endeavor and a pool of potential players was selected after a exhaustive talent search within the SLAF, conducted at SLAF TTS Ekala, from 17 Mar 2014 to 21 Mar 2014.

Under the able guidance of Mr Hewage, a Baseball team was formed and trained for a period of one month before they faced the challenge of competing in the trial matches of the Defence Services Games, conducted at Diyagama Mahinda Rajpaksha Baseball ground from 19 to 21 June 2014.

The Men’s team competed in trial matches with those of SL Navy and SL Army on 19th and 20th June 2014 respectively, and was placed third.  While the lack of experience proved a barrier, the players motivation and enthusiasm proved creditable and the team is determined to compete in the forthcoming National Baseball tournament scheduled to be conducted during the month of October 2014, where they are confident they will be able to prove their mettle.
