The Annual Inter Directorate Sports Competition of the Directorate of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (Dte of E & T E) ‘The Spiders’ Challenge Trophy’ is now in progress for the second consecutive year. The tournament is organised in such a way to divide all the serving members of the Dte of E & T E in to four teams, led by four Independent Formations under the purview of the Directorate. Accordingly, Glider team leads by E & T E Wing Kat, Spotter team leads by ITW SLAF RMA, Wasper team leads by RMW Kat and Wolfer team leads by E & T E Wing Rma are in the competition.

The inaugural competition held in last year (2013) concluded in a successful note with the awarding of the Champion’s Trophy for the winners of the championship at the Rifle Green Ground on 13 December 2013 during the Annual Get-to-together of Directorate of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering.
The Spiders’ Challenge Trophy-2014 was launched on 30th May 2014 at the Gymnasium SLAF Base Katunayake and subsequently participating teams competed each other in the game of Volleyball as the first event of the competition. As of now, the events of Table Tennis, Softball Cricket, Soccer and Badminton have been successfully completed.

The Badminton finals (the lastly held event) of Spiders’ Challenge Trophy-2014 were held on 26th August 2014 at the Gymnasium, SLAF Base Katunayake. In the finals, Spotter team beat the Glider team in Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles whereas Glider beat Spotter in Men’s Singles only. Thus, while Spotter team emerging as the winners of the Badminton event, Glider team and Wasper team secured the first runner-up and second runner-up places respectively as Wasper team beat Wolfer team at the encounter for the 3rd place.
