SLAF Station Koggala celebrates its 34th Anniversary
SLAF Station Koggala celebrated its 34th Anniversary yesterday (19
October 2018).
During the second World War, No 413
Squadron of the RAF was stationed at Koggala for the operation. After
the Second World War, No 413 Squadron was abandoned and troops were
recalled from Sri Lanka. Later, in 1982 Air Force Unit Koggala was
gazetted as an Air Force Establishment and Flight Lieutenant AD Paul
took over the duties of Air Force Unit Koggala as the first Commanding
Officer. The opening ceremony of the new camp was held on 19th October
1984.
Celebrations of the Anniversary under the
guidance of the Commanding Officer, Group Captain HTH Dharmadasa,
commenced with Shramadana Campaigns at Habaraduwa General Cemetery,
Habaraduwa Railway Station, Koggala Beach area and Elder’s Home at
Welhengoda. An alms giving programme was also conducted at Station
premises for 34 Buddhist monks followed by an all-night Pirith Chanting
Ceremony with the participation of all station personnel and
villagers.
A tree plantation programme, Cricket
Tournament and all ranks lunch were also organized in order to celebrate
the 34th Anniversary of the Station.
