SLAF Station Koggala Celebrates 35th Anniversary

SLAF Station Koggala celebrated its 35th Anniversary yesterday (19 October 2019).During the World War II (1939-1945), on 02 April 1942 No 413 Squadron of the Royal Ceylon Air Force was stationed at Koggala for operations.

After World War II, No 413 Squadron was abandoned and troops were recalled from Sri Lanka. Later, in 1982 Air Force Unit Koggala was gazetted as an Air Force Establishment and Flight Lieutenant AD Paul took over the duties of the Unit as the first Commanding Officer.

The opening ceremony of the new camp was held on 19th October 1984.Celebrations of the Anniversary under the guidance of the Commanding Officer, Group Captain VGGB Piyasiri commenced with a Shramadana Campaign to clean the foot paths at Habaraduwa and Koggala road sides.

A parade was held at station premises which was reviewed by the Commanding Officer followed by a Cricket Tournament and an all ranks lunch.


Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
