Colombo Air Symposium 2019 Concludes on a Positive Note

The second and final day's sessions of the 'Colombo Air Symposium - 2019' began this morning at the Eagles Lakeside Banquet & Convention Hall, Attidiya, Ratmalana.

The Symposium which was held under the theme ‘A Small Air Force: Way Forward in Achieving Future Vision’ commenced for the second day with the arrival of the Chief Guest for the day, the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias.

The second day saw four speakers delivering presentations and fielding questions during the two sessions slated for the day. The first session of the day titled “Customised Propagation” was moderated by Dr. Harinda Vidanage. The second session of day two titled “Fostering Aerial Diplomacy” was moderated by Prof. Sanu Kainikara. The speakers of the first session of the day were Air Vice Marshal WMKSP Weerasinghe and Major General PR Wanigasooriya. The speakers of the second and final session of the Colombo Air Symposium were Mr. George I H Cooke and Colonel Z A Valentinovich.

In summary the Colombo Air Symposium 2019 saw 12 learned speakers presenting their research findings on topics such as,


•    Reshaping  the Air Strategy through Technology, Synergy and Innovation to Mitigate the Limitations of a Small Air Force- Sri Lanka Air Force Context
•    The Asymmetric Threat: A Weak Actor's Perspective and Responses for an Air Force.
•    Small Air Forces at the Critical Juncture.
•    Air Options for a Small Air Force.
•    Algorithms of Airpower Four Future Scenarios for Small Air Forces in 2035.
•    The Evolution of Small Air Power: Development of SDF from inception to Today.
•    Stating Relevant- Fiscal, Technological, and Operational Challenges Facing Smaller Air Forces. 
•    Passage Plan to Exploit Internal Strengths.
•    Developing Small Air Forces through Professional Mastery to Meet the Future Challenges.
•    Evolving Dynamics of the Air Support Needed by the Land and Naval Forces to Deliver National Military Objectives of Sri Lanka.
•    An Air Diplomacy Policy for Sri Lanka : Formulating and Implementing a Two- Tier Strategy.
•    Air Force as a Tool to Provide Regional Security.

The concluding remarks were made by Air Vice Marshal Abdul Moeed Khan of the Pakistan Air Force. He is the Air Officer Commanding Headquarters of the Nothern Air Command in the Pakistan Air Force. On completion of all sessions, the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias awarded certificates and mementoes to the moderators and speakers of this year’s symposium.

The two day conference came to an end this afternoon following the Vote of Thanks which was delivered by the Chairman of the Symposium Committee, Air Commodore Udeni Rajapaksa and thus marked the successful completion of the “Colombo Air Symposium – 2019”.
