SLAF Athletes Shine at 36th National Sports Festival

SLAF Athletes Corporal Manjula Kumara and Airwoman Chandrika Rasnayake made their mark on the 36th National Sports Festival by becoming the best athletes in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.
Corporal Manjula Kumara was named as the best athlete in the field events for his record breaking performance in the men’s high jump event. The Asian Championships gold medalist shattered the current sports festival high jump record with an effort of 2.18 meters.
This performance over came the previous record of 2.13 meters held by ANDP Rathnasiri in 2006 at the Sugathadasa Stadium.
Airwoman Chandrika Rasnayake was named best athlete in women’s category for her splendid performances by winning 04 gold medals, where she made a clean sweep winning four gold medals in the women’s 200meters, 400meters, 4X100 meters relay and 4 X 400 meters relay events.
