NO 03 AIR DEFENCE RADAR SQUADRON CELEBRATES 15TH ANNIVERSARY

No 03 Air Defence RADAR Squadron at SLAF Station Weerawila celebrated its 15th anniversary on 01 February 2022
No 03 Air Defence RADAR Squadron consists with Indian made INDRA MK II, 2D mobile RADAR which was inducted to the National Air Defence system on 31st January 2007. The Squadron was officially inaugurated on 1st February 2007 at SLAF Base China Bay and again it was shifted to SLAF Station Weerawila replacing with presently available Chinese made YLC 18 RADAR system on 07th May 2012.
No 03 Air Defence RADAR Squadron has been commanded by eight Commanding Officers and presently commanded by Wing Commander Chinthana De Silva.
Series of events were conducted by the Squadron concurrent with the anniversary celebrations during consecutive three days. A customary working parade was conducted in addition to the ‘Sramadhana’ Campaign which was carried out at the Government Elders’ Home, Katharagama followed by an alms giving. Finally, a Cricket tournament was held at the station playground with the participation of all ranks of the Squadron. The Commanding Officer SLAF Station Weerawila, Group Captain Ashoka Koralage graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. All the events incline to the anniversary celebration were conducted with adherence to health guidelines which have been set up for the prevention of COVID-19.
