Regiment Special Forces (RSF) Wing at SLAF Station Morawewa celebrated its 19th anniversary yesterday (07 July 2022). The Regiment Special Forces Wing was established in 2003 at SLAF Base Hingurakgoda with the primary aim of serving Air Bases by being an elite forces element of the SLAF to conduct Air Base Defence & Rescue operations, Search & Rescue operations, Special Combat operations and Counter Revolutionary Warfare operations. Subsequently, this Wing was shifted to SLAF Station Morawewa in order to provide adequate operational and training requirements.

The celebration commenced with the customary working parade which was reviewed by the Commanding Officer Regiment Special Force Wing, Squadron Leader Sumith Bandara. Addressing to the gathering today, he thanked all the past Commanding Officers and other members who contributed for the development of the Regiment Special Forces Wing from its inauguration. The formation day was earmarked with a religious ceremony and a donation of essential dry ration items to the “Revatha Children’s Orphanage” at Trincomalee with the participation of Commanding Officer, all Officers and Other ranks of the Wing.

The day’s proceedings were concluded with an Elle tournament which was organized at the station sports ground with the participation of all servicemen.
