INAUGURATION CEREMONY OF NATIONAL TRAINING ON "PREPARATION, CONDUCT AND EVALUATION OF NUCLEAR OR RADIOLOGICAL EMERGENCY EXERCISE"

The inauguration ceremony of the National Training on "Preparation, Conduct and Evaluation of Nuclear or Radiological Emergency Exercise" was held yesterday (27 February 2023) at the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Regulatory Council Auditorium, Kelaniya under the patronage of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Director General Ground Operations of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Waruna Gunawardana graced the event as the Chief Guest.
The particular training is jointly organized by Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Regulatory Council and the Sri Lanka Air Force under the International Atomic Energy Agency National Technical Cooperation Project SRL 9013 which aims to strengthen the national capabilities for responding to Nuclear or Radiological Emergencies in Sri Lanka. A total of 28 participants from the Sri Lanka Energy Regulatory Council, Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board, Sri Lanka Armed Forces, Sri Lanka Police and Special Task Force, Sri Lanka Coast Guard, National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Ministry of Health, Department of Meteorology, Airport and Aviation Services, Disaster Management Centre, 1990 Suwa Seriya Foundation, Sri Lanka Customs and Sri Lanka Port Authority are taking part in this programme.
The ceremony was attended by Director General of Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board, Mr. Anil Ranjith, Chairman Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board, Prof. SRD Rosa, Director General of Atomic Energy Board, Dr. Viraj Edirisinghe, Director of National Centre for Non-Destructive Testing Atomic Energy Board, Mr. Anura Jayathilaka, Director of International Division Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board, Mr.Ranjith Bandara, Commanding Officer of the Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear and Explosive Wing, Wing Commander Nilendra Perera, Radiological Emergency Manager at Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization, Mr. Prashant Maharaj and Head of Emergency Department at Sudanese Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority, Ms. Nahla Suleiman.
