The Research and Development Wing celebrated its 8th anniversary yesterday (05 August 2023). The Research and Development Wing was established in 2015 at SLAF Base Katunayake with the primary vision of enhancing the research and development capabilities of the SLAF to promote innovation and indigenous development as the primary focus. While assisting all SLAF formations in their Research and Development functions, the formation is currently successfully conducting various research projects to enhance the operational capability of the SLAF.

The celebration commenced with a tree planting programme at the Wing premises, followed by a friendly cricket tournament with the participation of all personnel of the Wing at the SLAF Base Regiment Ground. In line with the anniversary celebration, a Shramadana campaign and an almsgiving were held at the "Lakshmi Children’s Home-Katunayake" with the contribution of the Commanding Officer, all officers and other ranks of the Wing on 03 August 2023.
