AIR VICE MARSHAL T A D R SENANAYAKE BIDS ADIEU TO THE SRI LANKA AIR FORCE

Air Vice Marshal Ranjith Senanayake RWP, RSP, USP, MSc (Sec & Strat Std) bid adieu to the Sri Lanka Air Force today (20 October 2023), after completing more than 35 years of dedicated service to the nation. At the time of his retirement, he held the appointment of Deputy Chief of Staff, at Air Force Headquarters Colombo.
Air Vice Marshal Senanayake made an official farewell call on the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, at his office today. The Commander commended him for his dedicated service rendered to the nation and to the Sri Lanka Air Force in particular. The Commander also emphasized that he was one of the key stakeholders during times of need for our motherland and that his heroic history will remain etched in the annals of the SLAF. The Commander and Air Vice Marshal Senanayake exchanged mementos to mark the occasion. Afterwards, he was accorded a Ceremonial Guard of Honour by the SLAF Colour Wing before departing from Air Force Headquarters for the last time.
In recognition of the outstanding service rendered to the nation, a Farewell Dinner was graciously hosted in honour of Air Vice Marshal Senanayake along with his beloved spouse with the presence of the Commander of the Air Force, along with Chairperson SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Enoka Rajapaksa and the members of the Air Force Board of Management. This momentous occasion took place at the Air Force Headquarters Officers' Mess in Colombo.
Air Vice Marshal Ranjith Senanayake was born on 21st October 1968. He is a proud product of Bandaranayaka College Gampaha. He joined the Sri Lanka Air Force on the 17th of June 1988 as an Officer Cadet in the Aeronautical and General Engineering Branch with the 19th Intake of Officer Cadets and successfully completed the Officer Cadets Basic Combat Course at Sri Lanka Air Force Combat Training School Diyatalawa, Basic Administrative Course and Branch Training Course at Sri Lanka Air Force Academy China Bay. He was commissioned on the 06th of July 1990 in the rank of Pilot Officer and elevated to his present rank on the 01st of May 2022.
During his service career, he has been entrusted with many key appointments as the Officer Commanding Maintenance of No.06 Squadron and No.02 Squadron, Commanding Officer of Aeronautical Engineering Support Wing SLAF Base Ratmalana, Commanding Officer of SLAF Trade Training School Ekala, Staff Officer General Engineering I, Command Quality Assurance Officer, Air Secretary, Deputy Director General Engineering, Deputy Director Aeronautical Engineering, Director General General Engineering, Director General Aeronautical Engineering and lastly he was assigned with duties as the Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Air Force.
Apart from being a well-decorated officer, Air Vice Marshal Senanayaka also has achieved many milestones in his academic career including the Junior Command and Staff Course in Bangladesh, Senior Command, Staff Course in Pakistan and Aircraft Maintenance Officer’s Course in the United States and Master of Science in Strategic Studies in Kotelawala Defence University. He is also an Aircraft Maintenance Engineering License holder in the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka.
For his distinguished and exemplary service, he has been awarded with “Uttama Seva Padakkama”. He was also awarded two gallantry medals, “Rana Wikrama Padakkama and Rana Sura Padakkama for his act of bravery in air operations as a MI 17 Flight Engineer.
In addition, he holds the appointment as the Chairman, of Sri Lanka Air Force Basketball. Furthermore, as a Member of the SLAF Board of Management in the capacity of Director General of two engineering spectrums, he engaged in a wide range of decision-making processes that demonstrated his proficiency in higher command and staff work. Throughout his tenure of service, he has showcased his engineering and leadership skills and has proven that he is a detail-oriented, results-driven individual who also encourages and inspires his subordinates.
