SLAF Base Vavuniya celebrated its 45th anniversary yesterday (27 October 2023) by giving prominence to social and recreational activities under the guidance of the Base Commander, Group Captain PN Gunthilake together with all Officers, other ranks and the civil staff.

The day's proceedings followed with the customary working parade, which was reviewed by the Base Commander. In remarks, the Base Commander emphasized the importance and historical significance of the Base Vavuniya during the humanitarian operation as well as the development over the years. In addition, highlighted that he expects the utmost discipline, maximum training and operational readiness from all personnel at the base, for the future development of the base as well.

In line with the anniversary celebration, a blood donation programme was conducted on 17 October 2023 as requested by Blood Bank of District General Hospital Vavuniya due to the scarcity of blood donors and more than hundred personnel contributed, representing every sections/formations of the Base.

In addition to that, colour washing of the main building and staircase of three story building and prune down trees which were highly dangerous for the buildings at District General Hospital Vavuniya.

Besides, renovation of a dilapidated wash room into a hygienic and tidy wash room at Railway Station Vavuniya,

 
Moreover, a coconut tree planting campaign was conducted within Base premises by planting 390 coconut trees, as the final phase of the project for planting 2000 coconut trees.

The anniversary celebrations concluded with a friendly night volleyball tournament with the participation of all service personnel and civil staff, followed by an all ranks Dinner.
