The annual all-night pirith chanting ceremony was held at No.9 Attack Helicopter Squadron at SLAF Base Hingurakgoda on 28 November 2023 as a combined effort of both members of No.9 Squadron and No.7 Squadron, in line with both squadrons’ war heroes commemoration 2023. Further, all the sections of SLAF Base Hingurakgoda assisted in numerous ways for the event.

The pirith chanting ceremony was attended by the Acting Base Commander, Group Captain Milinda Mendis, all officers and other rank members of the SLAF Base Hingurakgoda. The ‘reliquary’ (Karaduwa) was brought to No.9 Attack Helicopter Squadron hangar premises in a vivid procession and was placed in the ‘Pirith Mandapaya’ by the Commanding Officer No.9 Attack Helicopter Squadron, Wing Commander Sampath Liyanarachchi.

Subsequently, almsgiving was accorded to the venerable clergy yesterday (29 November 2023) and was attended by All rankers of SLAF Base Hingurakgoda and most importantly the living family members of the fallen war heroes of No.9 Squadron and No.7 Squadron.
