SLAF SPREADS THE JOY OF THE SEASON WITH “A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE”

The Sri Lanka Air Force Christmas Carols - 2023 was held last night (01 December 2023) to spread the joy of the season with “A Christmas Miracle”. On the invitation of the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Enoka Rajapaksa and the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, this glittery event was held under the gracious presence of Mrs. Gayani Tennakoon together with State Minister of Defence, Hon. Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon at the Eagles’ Lagoon View in Katunayake.
The Chief Guest was cordially welcomed at the entrance of Eagles’ Lagoon View by Mrs. Enoka Rajapaksa and Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa. The evening unfolded within a serene Christmas atmosphere meticulously created for the occasion. This year the Air Force Choir under the supervision of the Director Performing Arts, Group Captain Jayaratne Amarasinghe was made up of members of the Directorate of Performing Arts, children of Air Force service personnel and also serving members together with their spouses. Squadron Leader Gayan Joseph was at the helm as the Choir Master. The event was hosted by Squadron Leaders Radhika Ranaweera and Squadron Leader Lilangi Randeni and the SLAF Dancing Troupe created the magic of Christmas by performing the colorful nativity scenes. The ceremony also included the recognition of 14 school children of serving members who achieved exceptional results, obtaining 9 ‘A’s in the GCE Ordinary Level Examination. The State Minister of Defence recognized their academic accomplishments during the event.
Distinguished attendees at the event included clergy from Supuwath Arana, namely Reverend Father Darrel Coonghe and Reverend Sister Selinta Fernando. General Kamal Guneratne (Retd) and Mrs. Chitrani Guneratne, Chief of Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva and Mrs. Sujeeva Nelson, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage and Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, Members of the Diplomatic Community, Chief of Staff of the Air Force, and Members of the Air Force Board of Management along with their spouses, were among the guests this year.
