UNBEATEN SLAF WOMEN'S CRICKET TEAM CROWNS WOMEN'S INVITATIONAL MAJOR CLUB TOURNAMENT - 2023

Air Force Sports Club was crowned champions of the Women's Invitational Major Club Tournament 2023 as they beat Army Sports Club by 10 runs (DLS) in the final played yesterday (08 December 2023) at the BRC Ground in Colombo
.
Having won the toss, Army Sports Club opted to bat first and posted 154 runs for 8 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. National-capped Nilakshi de Silva was the top scorer for Army SC, as she made 72 runs off 105 balls with 4 fours and a six.

SLAF's Oshadi Ranasingha became the best bowler on the show for Air Force Sports Club, as she grabbed 3 wickets for 20 runs. Malsha Shehani and Inoshi Fernando were also impressed with the ball, sharing 2 wickets each.

In reply, the combined effort of Sanduni Abeywickrama (31 runs not out), Chamari Polagampola (26 runs) and Oshadi Ranasingha (34 runs not out) made it possible for the match's victory.

Finally, Air Force Sports Club posted 110 runs for 3 wickets before rain interrupted the play in the 38th over of the innings. Since the play did not resume thereafter, the match officials awarded the win to Air Force Sports Club, as they were 10 runs ahead of the DLS par score.

Sergeant Oshadhi Ranasinghe was awarded Player of the Final for her outstanding performance.

Chairman SLAF Cricket Group Captain Suresh Jayasinghe, Secretary SLAF Cricket Wing Commander Suranga Heshal, Manager SLAF Cricket Squadron Leader Ruwan Senevirathna, Assistant Secretary SLAF Cricket, Squadron Leader Piumi Padmakumara, airmen and airwomen witnessed the event.
