SLAF HOSTS HISTORIC “AIR TATTOO -2024” TECHNOLOGICAL AND EDUCATIONAL EXHIBITION IN NORTHERN PROVINCE

The "Air Tattoo - 2024" technological and educational exhibition, aligned with the 73rd anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force, was proudly inaugurated today (06 March 2024), at Muttraweli Ground in Jaffna under the auspices of the Governor of the Northern Province, Honourable Mrs. PSM Charles. The Chief of Staff of the SLAF, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Wickremaratne welcomed the chief guest on behalf of the Commander of the Air Force.
This marks the first educational exhibition on aircraft technology hosted by the Sri Lanka Air Force for the residents of the Northern Province and it will be etched in history as the inaugural air show organized by the Air Force in the Northern Province. The exhibition will feature parachute displays by the Air Force, drill displays, demonstrations of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Operations, dog shows, cultural displays and many more. Additionally, various activities, including music concerts and a trade exhibition that provides opportunities for entrepreneurs to connect with customers, will be presented throughout the evening for everyone's entertainment.
Scheduled to run from 6 to 10 March 2024, this technological and educational exhibition has accumulated the participation of local universities, private universities, Kotalawala Defence University, business institutions affiliated with the Chamber of Commerce and Industries in Yalpanam, as well as government agricultural, industrial, and technical institutions. More than 200 stalls have been set up for the exhibition, displaying the involvement of various institutions. The brainchild behind this concept, Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, has placed significant emphasis on the Air Tattoo 2024, highlighting its paramount importance in raising 'inclusivity' within the future Air Force. Furthermore, an effort has been directed towards the recruitment drive targeting the younger population, offering ample opportunities for individuals aspiring to become members of the Air Force. Notably, a dedicated recruitment stall has been established, facilitating preliminary interviews that are underway during this brief period. The Sri Lanka Air Force has extended a complimentary invitation to students in school uniforms, allowing them to attend the technological and educational exhibition free of charge.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of Air Tattoo -2024, Air Vice Marshal Muditha Mahawattage, members of the Air Force Board of Management, Senior Tri-forces Officers and government officials.
