AIR CHIEF CONDUCTS A COMPREHENSIVE TRAINING REVIEW WORKSHOP

The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, conducted a training review workshop at the SLAF Combat Training School, Diyatalawa on 18 May 2024. This significant event was attended by key figures, including the Director General Planning, Director General Ground Operations, Director General Training, Base Commander SLAF Base Katunayake, Director Research and Development, Director Trade Training, Chief Recruiting Officer, Heads of Training Establishments and other stakeholders responsible for Air Force training.
The primary focus of the workshop was to evaluate the current state and advancements in various training programmes within the SLAF. The Commander scrutinized the progress of basic ground combat training, technical training and specialized training, ensuring that these programmes meet the current operational requirements and standards of the Air Force. Discussions also covered the entire spectrum of training, from basic training for new recruits and officer cadets to career advancement training for service personnel.
A major highlight of the discussions was the need to adapt and reorient training strategies to address future challenges. This included considerations for the downsizing of personnel and the integration of continuous technological advancements into training protocols. The Commander emphasized the importance of foresight and adaptability to ensure the SLAF remains prepared and proficient in all operational scenarios.
During the conference, particular attention was given to the newly introduced Training Management System (TMS). The Director Specialized Training, Air Commodore Anurudda Wijesiriwardena, provided an in-depth explanation of this innovative system. The TMS represents a significant leap forward by automating and networking training notes and aids across all SLAF training establishments. This system is expected to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of training delivery, streamline processes and facilitate better resource management.
