8:26pm on Sunday 25th August 2024
The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, attended the Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Air Force Ex-Servicemen Association today (25 August 2024) at the Eagles' Lakeside Multifunctional and Convention Hall, Ratmalana. The Commander graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, following an invitation extended by the President of the Air Force Ex-Servicemen Association, Air Vice Marshal Elmo Perera (Retd). The event was also attended by the Director General Administration, Air Vice Marshal Manoaj Keppetipola.
The Commander addressed during his speech that he strives to expand and enhance the services provided to retired Air Force members, viewing this responsibility as extending beyond mere duty. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to strengthen financial security and improve the standard of living for retired personnel, with steps being taken to ensure they enjoy a higher quality of life post-retirement.
Medical and dental facilities remain accessible to retired personnel through the nearest Air Force base. Additionally, the Commander revealed plans to construct a fully equipped office complex for the association, addressing a longstanding need.
The Commander also highlighted the existing holiday home facilities available to ex-servicemen, including in Anuradhapura and Kataragama, while announcing the development of a new holiday home at SLAF Combat Training School, Diyatalawa, lined up for completion next year.
He further outlined a new initiative aimed at securing the future of the children of retired Air Force members. This programme has already seen two children of ex-servicemen pursuing an undergraduate dental course, with financial support provided through monthly wages. Upon completing their education, these individuals will be commissioned as officers in the Air Force, securing their professional future.
Finally, the Commander spoke of the ongoing construction of the Air Force Hospital in Narahenpita, which will, upon completion, offer treatment facilities to retired personnel, further extending the care and support available to ex-servicemen of the Air Force.
During the occasion, several ex-servicemen were honoured with Honorary Lifetime Membership Certificates, presented by the Commander of the Air Force, in recognition of their distinguished service and enduring contributions.
