The SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit successfully organized the World Children's Day celebrations for 2024 at the 'Pearl Bay' water park in Bandaragama, marking the second consecutive year of this event. The celebrations, held today (28 September 2024), were graced by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa and the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Enoka Rajapaksa, as the Chief Guests.
The event commenced with the Chief Guests' arrival, followed by a special “go-karting” race, in which children and parents had the opportunity to participate at a concessionary rate. Winners of the race were awarded cash prizes, adding excitement to the occasion.
Throughout the day, children were able to enjoy a variety of leisure activities, alongside the water-based attractions of the park. This year, over 1,500 children and their parents, representing numerous Air Force establishments, participated in the event, making it a memorable occasion for all.
A special educational exhibition, organized in collaboration with prominent universities and technical agencies in Sri Lanka, provided guidance on higher education opportunities for children. The event also featured captivating performances by students from the 'Iduwara' Dancing Academy in Yakkala, held during the opening and closing ceremonies.
Additional highlights included an Air Dogs show, a Band display, a drill demonstration, face painting, and a variety of games for children, coordinated by the event's media partner, 'Swarnawahini'. The Air Force Music Band entertained attendees, allowing children to showcase their singing talents. Notably, the renowned musical group 'Wayo,' led by distinguished artist Sangeetha Wijesuriya, also attended the event, performing songs that shared joy and love with the children. These activities, along with the day’s festivities, created lasting memories for all participants.
